Director of Basketball, Daniel Stratford, is a Tenison Woods College old scholar (1987-1992). Daniel returned as a staff member in 1998 and has completed a number of leadership roles at the College, including being Head of Middle School for four years and Sports Coordinator for eight years.
Daniel was involved in the SA Country Basketball system through his junior playing days representing South Australia before going on to become a member of the Mount Gambier Pioneers in 1991 and 1992. Daniel then moved to Adelaide to attend University, while also furthering his basketball career with the Forestville Eagles and winning multiple championships. A return to the Mount Gambier Pioneers and teaching position at Tenison Woods College followed, as Daniel developed his skills both as a player and coach. Daniel has coached many successful Tenison Woods College basketball teams and was also an assistant coach to Jason Sedlock with the Pioneers in 2007.
Since re-joining the Tenison Woods College community in 1998, Daniel has continued to develop the strong Tenison basketball culture established by Barrie Holmes and Bob Brown. Barrie and Bob developed a strong basketball tradition and achieved great success through the late 80s and mid 90s, winning 14 state championships. Under Daniel’s guidance, Tenison Woods College basketball has continued to grow from these roots with continued success at state level, and the introduction of the Junior Basketball Academy and USA tour in 2005, and the Senior Titans Basketball Academy in 2010.
Daniel’s experience as Sports Coordinator over the past eight years, running three highly successful USA tours, and also designing and introducing the latest in personalised basketball curriculum, makes him well qualified to lead this Academy.
Daniel has a strong history through ABA and SEABL levels of competition, a real passion for basketball and Tenison Woods College, and is driven to ensure that each individual student receives every opportunity to achieve their personal goals. With networks throughout all levels of the Australian and USA basketball systems, Daniel has the knowledge and resources to create the best basketball opportunities for all student athletes.
